Foreign Direct Investment, a special division from the Financial Times U.K., has created a new report, “American Cities of the Future 2011 – 2012.” Poughkeepsie came in at the top 10 of three Micro Cities categories. In the category of Top 10 Micro Cities Economic Potential, Poughkeepsie ranked ninth.

In the category of Top 10 Micro Cities Human Resources, which by definition includes: Unemployment rate, number of ‘world top-500’ universities, number of colleges and universities, top business schools, labor force with tertiary education and brain drain, Poughkeepsie came in second. In the category of Micro Cities Business Friendliness Poughkeepsie ranked sixth. “The fruits of our labor are finally coming to fruition after years of working towards this goal,” said Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Charles S, North during a telephone interview with WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
